Summary of vacancy

Derwentside Environmental Testing Services (DETS) specialise in carrying out analytical services in sectors such as environmental, construction, waste, fuel and engineering industries. DETS takes pride in providing high quality services to an accredited environment (UKAS 17025 standards) and over the years they have seen significant year on year growth and market penetration in the above sectors. DETS are currently looking for two Trainee Asbestos Analyst to work within the Asbestos department

No previous experience is required as full training will be provided; however, you must hold 3 GCSE’s grade A-C/Standard grade – general pass including Maths, English and Science.

Duties will include the analysis of bulk materials and soils for the presence of asbestos in accordance with HSE publication HSG 248.

Participation in internal and external (AIMS) quality schemes for the identification of asbestos in materials.

Following in-house training, candidates will be expected to undertake and pass the P401 Certificate for the “Identification of Asbestos in Bulk Samples” within a reasonable timescale – this examination usually takes place at Manchester.    A maximum of two attempts at the exam will be permitted. 

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £16,000 per annum increasing to £18,000 on completion of training
